Background of the Study
Tuberculosis (TB) remains one of the most pressing public health issues globally, and Nigeria is no exception. The National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) was established to control and reduce TB infection rates through early diagnosis, treatment adherence, and public health education. In Cross River State, the NTP aims to curb the spread of TB by providing free diagnostic services and treatment options, as well as by implementing community outreach programs to raise awareness about the disease (Ogunleye, 2023). Effective implementation of the NTP is critical for reducing TB incidence and preventing the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Studies have shown that robust TB control measures can lead to significant declines in infection rates, but challenges such as patient non-adherence, stigma, and resource constraints continue to impede progress. Evaluating the effectiveness of the NTP in Cross River State is essential for identifying gaps in the program and developing strategies to optimize TB control efforts (Ibrahim, 2024). This study will examine the impact of the NTP on TB infection rates and assess the factors influencing its success (Adebayo, 2025).
Statement of the Problem
In Cross River State, TB remains a significant public health challenge despite the implementation of the National Tuberculosis Program. Many patients face barriers to early diagnosis and consistent treatment, leading to continued transmission and the potential for drug-resistant TB. Issues such as stigma, limited access to diagnostic facilities, and poor adherence to treatment regimens undermine the program’s effectiveness. The absence of comprehensive monitoring systems further complicates efforts to assess and improve the NTP. Consequently, infection rates remain high, and the public health burden of TB persists. Addressing these challenges requires a critical evaluation of the NTP’s implementation and the identification of key barriers that prevent optimal outcomes (Chukwuma, 2023).

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on TB control programs in selected communities in Cross River State. Data will be collected from health records, patient interviews, and program evaluations. Limitations include potential underreporting of TB cases and regional disparities in program implementation.
